Sara Dowse

‘As the Lonely Fly’ is an epic story of persecution, migration and dispersal during tumultuous events of the 20th Century, which shines a light on the intertwined fates of Jews and Palestinians – a scenario with deep contemporary resonance.

An urgent and moving novel from one of this country’s most gifted story-tellers.

SARA DOWSE is an award-winning writer and artist who, in the 1970s, played a significant role in second wave feminism as one of Australia’s first ‘femocrats’.

Her novel ‘West Block’ drew on her experience as head of the first women’s unit in Australia’s department of prime minister and cabinet. Four other novels followed: ‘Silver City’, ‘Schemetime’, ‘Sapphires’ and ‘Digging’. ‘As the Lonely Fly’ has been 25 years in the writing, and is Dowse’s most important work to date.

Sara Dowse was born in Chicago and lived in New York and Los Angeles before migrating to Australia in 1958. She lives in Sydney.
