FIONA FOLEY, Nguthuru-Nur

Noosa Regional Gallery in conjunction with NOOSA alive! presents an exciting First Nations exhibition.

Nguthuru-Nur presents a recent series of photographic works by Fiona Foley shot on Badtjala Country. The Magna Carta Tree series examines a mangrove tree named by cattle farmer, Lindsay Titmarsh, on whose property — Tandora — the tree has been living for over 700 years. The farmer named the tree after Magna Carta — which was underwritten in 1215. It is about the same age as the tree on the farmer’s property. Magna Carta is an infamous charter that has led much of Western law since its inception. The 39th Clause of the Magna Carta Libertatum states:

“No free man shall be seized or imprisoned, or stripped of his rights or possessions, or outlawed or exiled, or deprived of his standing in any other way, nor will we proceed with force against him, or send others to do so, except by the lawful judgement of his equals or by the law of the land. To no one will we sell, to no one deny or delay right or justice.” FIONA FOLEY, Nguthuru-Nur

 MICHAEL COOK, Natures Mortes

Noosa Regional Gallery in conjunction with NOOSA alive! presents an exciting First Nations exhibition.

Natures Mortes

Michael Cook’s Natures Mortes gives us a central tableau, beautifully lit to expose choreographed arrangements of plants, animals, objects and food. Grounded in a photographic aesthetic that echoes Dutch Old Master paintings, this series of work examines the industry and practices that have so effectively brought damage to traditional Aboriginal culture, the natural environment of the Australian continent – and the globe. Each image explores an aspect of the devastating impact of colonisation on Australia’s First Nations peoples, and the global repercussions of environmental degradation.

The translation of the French in the title of this series, “Natures mortes” is dead nature. Yet in the simmering emotional register of each image lies an inherent belief in the individual over environment, and the redemptive nature of culture. MICHAEL COOK, Natures Mortes

Film with Food ‘Delicious’

Slow Food Noosa invites you to view a joyous feast for the eyes, “Delicious”, a wonderful French Arthouse film.

Set on the Eve of the French Revolution in 1789, when gastronomy was strictly the domain of aristocrats, our culinary master, Pierre Manceron, is the in-house Chef for the Duke of Chamfort, bringing prestige, as well as delicious food, to this noble household. After a humiliating dismissal, Pierre gradually redevelops his passion for gourmet cuisine, climaxing in opening the first restaurant (ever) in France!

Also indulge in a delicious 3-course dinner, inspired by the film, prepared by 3 Chef’s led by food celebrity and past Slow Food Noosa President Matt Golinski, in the delightful ambience of Noosa Springs Country Club.

    Our Reviews!

    Glorious views & marvellous food

I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to hear one of Australia’s most engaging and authentic authors - Trent Dalton speak at Noosa Alive. Trent’s entertaining anecdotes, the intimate venue, the glorious views and the marvellous Boat House food made for a memorable night. Can’t wait to see what’s lined up for next year’s festival. I will definitely be back! Thank you Noosa Alive!!

    I highly recommend Reignite Festival

It was an absolute treat to attend the Reignite Festival in 2021. Both delightfully and entertaining. I left feeling very inspired and eager for the next event.
Over a delicious dinner which really topped it all off! Thanks very much for organising a great event and I look forward to more.
    Much appreciated

I can’t wait for next year!

We attended the Noosa Alive dinner at FISH PARKRIDGE this year. It was absolutely incredible. We especially loved the entertainment… such a wonderful and creative arts performance that made us feel alive. It was engaging, funny and made us want to sing & dance. The food was excellent and the mixed array of guests showed us that there is a fantastic arts community right on our doorstep. We really hope to be part of more Noosa Alive events next year as this was our first year.

    I highly recommend Noosa alive!

We recently attended an amazing event at The Boathouse with Trent Dalton.
The food was exquisite and so generous for the price of the ticket and the interview was next level. We got so much more than we thought the ticket price was worth. To hear such an accomplished speaker speak so openly and rawly was such a treat. We didn’t want it to end and knew it went way longer than we were promised. I would definitely attend another event like this without hesitation.
